n. a critically acclaimed cult-status band that mixes hardcore with smooth melodies. Band members, especially frontman Chino Moreno, have a great love for classic alternative, like the Smiths, the Cure, Depeche Mode, and My Bloody Valentine. The band also has some minor influences from the awesome all-black DC hardcore band Bad Brains. The Deftones are not really overrated, but rather underrated, as they often get clumped in with nu-metal bands and lesser-talented rock groups like Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park and Korn, despite the fact that the Deftones are nothing like these bands.(The deftones have had one or two rap-metal songs, but these were made way before the crappy band Linkin Park or Limp Bizkit were even on the scene, and without the Deftones, those bands wouldn't even be around)They may be a template for that horrible band Linkin Park, but if that's true, then the band Linkin Park simply wants to be as talented as the Deftones, and if so, they have not succeeded, because they sound like nu-metal crap and nothing like the Deftones. The Deftones are in a genre of their own. No current band has anything on them.

A very talented band out of Cali that NO one can compare to. This band has made their own distict sound that no other band has. Chino Morenos vocals are so unique. He Uses his voice in so many ways, that he makes the listener engaged into what he's saying. The lyrics can mean anything to anybody and that's the shit. Best songs are Hexagram, Bored, 7 words, Be quiet and drive and much more. I got all 4 cds, and I MUST SAY I GOTMY ,MONEYS WORTH\!\!\!\!

The Deftones mix their music up with some hard, heavy stuff and tone it down some nice alternative sound.

The Deftones are a quartet that formed in 1989 and was responsible just as much as korn was for the so called "nu-metal" movement. The Deftones came into being when drummer Abe Cunningham suffered from a car accident that he sewed the driver for and won. Once the money was in place, the band bought very expensive musical equipment and released a demo titled "Like Linus". Although the Deftones were unknown to the mainstream and were not an overnight success, the band had created a sound of their own. Their first full length album "Adrenaline" exploded onto the scene with such anthems as, "Bored", "7 Words", and "Engine \# 9". The band got exposure with their sucessful debut. Around the time of the release of Adrenaline, Korn was also a big new band. The two toured together in their early days and were both catergorized as nu metal. The Deftones next album was entitled Around the Fur, which was more accesible to the mainstream, had the MTV favorites, "My Own Summer" and "Be Quiet And Drive". Shortly after the release of Around the Fur, the quartet added Dj Frank Delgado. At this time, The Deftones were the band to listen to...if not be influenced by. The Deftones alone have set the bar high for most new bands. The Deftones have an influence on Linkin PArk, Limp Bizkit, System Of A Down, POD, Papa Roach, and just about any other band you can think of that is a form of rap metal. The Deftones solidified their influential status with their long awaited album WHite Pony. Pretty much every song on White Pony is a one of a kind, and has many things that countless singles today simply do not have. Although fans were convinced that the deftones would tone down on the heaviness (since white pony was the slowest album yet), the deftones 4th ablum, "Deftones" is one of the heavier ablums to come out since the new mellinium. Still today the Deftones are one of the better bands that dont seem to repeat themselves or get old. Although Korn had a bigger sucess, deftones were around long before korn and were influencing heavy weight rap metalers long before.

there are 2 meanings 1. a "nu metal" band which has a unique vocal style. even though its soft.. it still sux. what did u think i would say its good. and all in all the instrumentals are really easy. they say nu metal is supposed to be easy but sound good. but this is one band that really doesnt follow up 2. often an insult to call someone who likes nu metal deftones. because of the sheer amount of people and nu metal people who dont like them. even calling a nu metal person who does like them "deftones" they will easily get offended just because it is an insult. however they will openly say they like them but that doesnt change the fact that. its an insult.
